Acupuncture Helps Period Problems
Acupuncture helps women with period problems. It can bring back absent or irregular cycles and helps PMS. It can also be used to reduce pain, migraine and heavy bleeding once your period begins.
Endometriosis is a debilitating and life altering condition for women of all ages. But acupuncture and nutrition support can reduce the symptoms of pain and inflammation.
Stress and diets high in sugar, dairy, meat and low in fibre exacerbate inflammation and increase period pain and PMS.
Nutrition can resolve deficiencies in key nutrients like B6, zinc, iron, iron and magnesium and rebalance hormones naturally.
Acupuncture helps women with period problems by relaxing muscle spasms, balancing luteal and follicular hormones and calming the nervous system.
PCOS is probably the most common condition women seek help for and it can respond well to acupuncture and nutrition. They help reduce inflammation and support better blood glucose management, weight loss and allow for more regular periods.
Perimenopause
Our 40’s are a time of expansion and personal growth as well as increased family responsibility.
We often still have young families or teenagers as well as ageing parents and careers to juggle.
Coping with busy lives plus fluctuations in our hormones can leave us vulnerable to low mood, sleep issues and anxiety.
Women can feel overwhelmed or less able to cope with stress than before. Acupuncture, diet and stress reduction can help us rebalance so we feel more like ourselves again.
Its’ now, that any fatigue, anxiety, frustration, heavy periods or extra weight can also be addressed and reversed with acupuncture and nutrition.
The perimenopause is finally getting the attention it deserves. Finally, we can get the help we need to manage our symptoms. And get on top of any symptoms before our periods stop completely and we enter the menopause.
Menopause
The menopause has its challenges. For many, the biggest issue is not the much-feared night sweats. It’s more the poor sleep, anxiety and fatigue which follows in its’ wake.
Other women find weight gain, hot flushes, low libido, joint pain and poor mood to be their particular bug bear.
What’s important to remember about the menopause is that it is a time of adaption. Your body learns to get used to lower levels of oestrogen and progesterone. But whilst it’s doing this it can be a bumpy ride.
What helps is to reach out to and get support from a variety of natural therapies as well as from your GP and other hormonal specialists.
A combination of acupuncture, diet and lifestyle change can help support your particular needs and ease you through calmly.
If you would like more support please contact Hanna directly via the contact page or the clinic reception team. And she will call you back for a chat before you book in.
From the very first session my hot flushes and night sweats diminished in frequency and intensity and just half a dozen treatments later I feel I’m a cool and happy person again”

Why Looking After The Adrenals Matters
After the menopause the body still makes oestrogen by changing androgens or male hormones into oestrogen. Androgens are produced by the adrenal glands, which sit on top of the kidneys. Next, a hormone called aromatase changes our androgens into oestrogen.
Aromatase is produced mainly by fatty tissues. Which is why there’s a tendency to gain weight around the hips and tummy when we’re menopausal.
Acupuncture, nutritional advice and lifestyle changes can reduce hot flushes, support your adrenals and put the breaks on unnecessary weight gain. This way it can help you give your body the ingredients it needs to adapt to the freedom of your new reality.
The Progesterone Steal
Stress hormones, like cortisol and progesterone are made from the same ‘mother’ hormone, pregnenalone. When we are in ‘flight or fight’, our main stress hormone cortisol, can take the lion’s share of the ingredients.
This is known as the ‘progesterone steal’ and it can contribute to many hormonal imbalances. At this time we tend to be more oestrogen dominant and have a relative lack of progesterone.
Low progesterone levels can make us feel low, stressed and less able to cope with life.
Excess oestrogen leads to extra think womb linings, fibroids, heavy bleeding and issues like weight gain and bloating.
Looking after yourself ; addressing stress with meditation, mindfulness, counselling, diet and therapies like acupuncture and nutritional therapy can help.
Acupuncture takes the strain off adrenals; boost progesterone and help rebalance fluctuating hormone levels and calm the mind.
